claire wellin earned her bfa in musical theatre from minnesota state university in june of 2009. claire also studied film, italian language and cultural studies at the american university of rome.

claire is also a trained violinist.

claire has participated in jazz and concert choirs, as well as the central dakota children’s choir. claire auditioned for and was accepted to state and regional honor choirs, singing both jazz and classical repertoire. in addition, claire performed solo and ensemble works for state music competitions, and received highest ratings including two best performance awards. claire also participated in nats, where claire received first place awards. claire has received several music and theatre scholarships, including the guy larson scholarship for excellence in music, the loretta and lee snilsberg scholarship,the herb kroon musical theatre scholarship, and the dr. paul mary jo hustoles musical theatre scholarship.

in college, claire has performed as part of the msu jazz singers, a small group that performs both a capella works as well as accompanied jazz. the group participated in jazz festivals throughout the midwest in addition to their own university concerts, in which claire performed both as a soloist and ensemble singer. claire also performs original work and jazz standards with her duo

claire is a trained violinist, beginning private study at age five. she studied with trish hinckel, kathy murphy, dc, britt swenson, and thomas wellin. she has performed in masterclasses for ann akiko meyers, henning kraggeruud, jill olson, christian zamora, dr. john rumney, lynn rumney, and the chiara string quartet. she also performed with top orchestras at international music camp and was a part of the north dakota all state orchestra all four years of high school. she played in the bismarck-mandan symphony orchestra and played antonio vivaldi’s spring concerto as a soloist in high school. she attended dakota chamber music and also received a full scholarship to play in the national youth symphony orchestra at the kennedy center in washington.  she has played violin for dance and theatre pieces, and has performed her own work with the disappearance of franklin.

claire also taught private violin lessons to students of all ages while in school, learning as much from teaching as she did from her own private study.
